Applications open: new co-editors for King’s English blog

King’s English co-editors Diya and Fran are seeking two new co-editors to handover their posts from January 2019. All English Literature and Language PhD students are welcome to apply. We expect that editors will serve for a minimum of one calendar year.
Co-editors are responsible for ensuring the King’s English blog is a regularly-updated space which showcases the research expertise of the department. This involves commissioning, editing, laying out, and publicising one blog post on a fortnightly basis. Co-editors liaise with the Head of Department and the Impact Lead to source and publicise posts. Co-editors are paid for four hours of work per week each, at a rate of £13.06 per hour.
Co-editor requirements:
– Good copy editing skills are essential.
– The ability to work as a team
– A desire to develop an awareness and a willingness to keep on top of the breadth of work and the research goings-on of the department will be useful (it’s ok if you’re new to the Department, if you can show that you’re ready to throw yourself into the role!).
– The blog is currently populated more or less evenly with posts that have been submitted and posts that have been commissioned. Co-editors should be able to confidently approach colleagues to suggest and encourage blog posts.
– Familiarity with WordPress is not necessary: an ability to learn quickly and independently is more important – some basic training will be provided for complete beginners.

– Ideas for two blog posts that you would like to commission in Spring – Autumn 2019, and how you would go about making them happen
– What would be your three top tips for writing a good blog post that you’d use when commissioning work
Because of the way that King’s English is hosted, there’s not much scope for redesigning the blog to any great extent, so avoid spending words on this! Instead, tell us about how you’d work with what exists already.
