Introducing: the King’s Leadership & Professional Skills Award

Today brings another guest post from our Awards and E-learning team, with Skills Award Coordinator & E-Learning Officer Emily McGrath introducing the King’s Leadership & Professional Skills Award….

This Award is a great opportunity for you to reflect on your strengths, identify areas of development and gain recognition for your extra-curricular activities. Through participating you’ll learn how to demonstrate your skills to employers, as well as practise the art of self-management and balancing priorities, which is an excellent attribute to leave King’s with.

We have 350 spaces available – if you’re interested, applications are now open on King’s CareerConnect. You’ll find the application form in the ‘Forms & Information’ section on your dashboard, and we’re asking for a short statement explaining how taking part in KLPSA will benefit you. You have until 12pm on Fri 5th October to apply, so take your time writing the statement – all will be reviewed equally, regardless of submission date/time. Additionally, KLPSA is open to all students – any level of study and any discipline of study – so you’ll have the chance to meet people you might not normally come across.

If given a place, you’ll need to complete a number of activities over 6 months to tally up enough points to pass (including the following compulsory activities), as well as submittin some written assessments:

  • Attend 2 KLPSA Assessed Sessions (these will be skills based, e.g. Project Management or Presenting & Pitching Skills)
  • Attend 3 Careers & Employability events (e.g. a Careers Fair or ‘Discover Careers In…’)
  • Complete 1 online course (via KEATS, topics include ‘Commercial Awareness’ and ‘Finding Jobs/Internships’)
  • Accrue a minimum of 30 hours experiential learning (e.g. part-time work, volunteering or interning)

Successful completion of KLPSA will be rewarded in the annual King’s Experience Awards Ceremony, and it’ll also appear on your Higher Education Achievement Report (HEAR), which you can showcase to employers.
