Provincializing water justice

This month, we held a workshop series on Environmental Justice in collaboration with University of North Carolina Chapel Hill.  One of the discussions was Provincializing water justice: Can we rethink global environmental justice “from Asia”.  Led by Dr Majed Akhter (King’s Water) and in conversation with Dr Danielle Purifoy (UNC), participants explored readings and ideas.

Here’s what PhD student, Joris Gort, reports about the event:

“Over the space of three weeks, faculty and students from King’s College London and the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill engaged in an exciting workshop series on Environmental Justice with the aim of furthering transatlantic discussion on the topic. Initial sessions focused on defining environmental justice and multidisciplinary methods; something students and academics from both universities expressed interest in exploring further through future collaboration. Two engaging discussions with Dr Danielle Purifoy and Dr Majed Akhter rounded off what turned out to be a fun workshop series that surely warrants repeating”

On our side of the pond, the event was further supported by PhD students Anna Smith and Erica Borg.
