Meet your PG Buddies

Introducing your Buddies for this year! Iqra, Julia, and Amy are current Postgrad students and they will blogging/vlogging and running the offer holder groups.

Iqra

Hi Everyone! I’d like to take a few minutes to introduce myself, my name is Iqra and I am currently studying my Msc in Health Psychology at King’s! Alongside this role I am also a course rep for the subject and my education and work experience background is also in the field of psychology (completing a BSc in psychology and research assistant and AP roles in the past)!

When I’m not busy studying I enjoy Netflix-ing and reading psychological thrillers (my current read is the silent patient by Alex Michaelides).

I look forward to engaging and answering any questions you may have!

Julia

Hello! My name is Julia and I am at KCL for my MSc in Neuroscience. I am an international student from the United States, more specifically I am from the Chicagoland area. I did my bachelors at Elmhurst College (now Elmhurst University) where I graduated last spring with a BSc in Psychology and a minor in Biology. I have been fortunate enough to have arrived in the UK back in mid-September, and I have really enjoyed my time here even despite being in a lockdown most of the time. I have thoroughly enjoyed my course so far, and I hope to share more with you all soon!

Amy

Hi everyone! I’m Amy, I’m a postgraduate student studying Global Mental Health, which is a joint programme between King’s and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. I studied undergrad BSc Psychology at the University of Nottingham and after my masters, I want to go into public health or policy development. In my spare time, I love to play netball, this year I would have been playing for the KCL first team. I also enjoy overpriced coffee and drinking wine with friends (when that’s allowed).

  1. HI girls! I have a question for Amy! I was thinking about doing the MSc in Global Mental Health as well, and wanted to know if you could give me any advice on where is the most convenient place to live, considering the masters is both in KCL and LSHTP. Thanks!

    • Hi, so exciting to hear you’re considering the course, it is honestly brilliant, if not a little challenging! I live in Clapham and unfortunately have not actually made it to either campus so I couldn’t possibly comment from experience! Also, this will depend on whether you’re wanting to be in student accommodation or a house/flat etc. I don’t live in student accommodation. However, when I was considering where to live I did have the same question as you! I think one great thing about London is obviously the connectedness thanks so the plethora of transport options available! One thing to consider though is that tube stations are a little harder to come by in South London compared to North, but the buses are still fantastic so that definitely helps! I can recommend living in Clapham, it’s a bit more of a town-feel which I really liked if I was going to be in the city all day. Similarly, Brixton, Elephant and Castle and Kennington are great places to be, a bit more central too. Student accommodation in Vauxhall, Julian Markham or Atlas are probably good bets too, a little closer to Denmark Hill campus but any of the King’s accommodations will be a good bet as they lay roughly on that path between Denmark Hill Campus and LSHTM. I hope this helps a little, please feel free to get in touch again if you have any more specific questions.
