Joining the King’s student community feels like joining one big, diverse and vibrant family, and being a student at King’s comes with endless opportunities and benefits. There are so many ways to get involved, meet new people and gain new experiences.
If you do get the chance to live in London while studying at King’s, you can enjoy student travel options and discounts, lots of different events to cater for any of your interests and the plethora of enrichment London as to offer.
As a student at the IoPPN, you are automatically a member of King’s College London Students’ Union (KCLSU). KCLSU supports us through organising social, sporting and cultural activities, providing opportunities to develop our skills, have our voices heard as well as receive the advice and guidance we need. No matter where your interest lies, there’ll be a club or society for you, whether it’s baking, Bhangra or bowling! There is something for everyone, you can hop into sports clubs, societies, volunteering opportunities, student media and campaigning groups.
Through the Neuroscience and Open Minds societies, I have been able get stuck in and attend some really interesting and thought-provoking events and talks, and even deliver some talks of my own through volunteering and holding mental health and stigma related teaching sessions. As a member of the King’s 100, a diverse group of 100 students, reflective of the King’s community, I have been able to co-create with the university and input on student experience projects and initiatives. And as a student ambassador, I have met and connected with so many people in a fun and creative way, even from home!
If you like eating and shopping, like me, you’ll be spoilt for choice at King’s. KCLSU offer three awesome bars which host karaoke, quiz and curry nights: The Vault and Philosophy Bar on the Strand Campus and Guy’s Bar on Guy’s Campus. We also have two cafes, The Shack café can be found on the Strand Campus and The Shed is located on Guy’s Campus, with lots of hot drinks, space to chill and study, and most importantly, delicious food. If you’re into representing your uni by wearing King’s branded clothing and accessories, obsessed with stationary, looking for gifts or sustainable, plastic-free products, you can visit The Union Shop on the Strand Campus or Nought on Guy’s Campus (for those times where you need to treat yourself).
