With the end of the academic year coming to a close, our postgraduate students will be sharing their insight into what they have been up to in June and July.
In the upcoming months there are a series of conferences taking place at King’s, one called The Classics, the Left and the Sublime on the 18-19 July 2018. Furthermore, if I haven’t mentioned already, check out Rodin and the art of ancient Greece exhibition at The British Museum – a must see!

Some interesting and fun events in the department this month are; Walter Mignolo on Decoloniality at Tate Britain: The Argentine thinker discussed his new work, and what the terms ‘coloniality’ and ‘decoloniality’ mean to him. What Makes Us Human: Anxiety: This was the final session of a three-part series responding to the All Too Human exhibition and explored the concept, experience and representation of anxiety, from the personal to the societal, within the visual arts.

The English department runs social events throughout the year and this is a great way to meet people, make friends, and chat to staff from the department. There are also a number of seminars and reading groups that take place throughout the year. The Abstract is a fortnightly seminar series where postgraduate students have the opportunity to present their research.

Last week Alexander Bird gave a lecture on the philosophy of powers and magnitudes. Next week, we will have John Callanan speaking on Kant and moral theory. In addition to this, Philosophy research students are giving talks throughout the summer on their work. This is a great way to find out the variety of things you could be working on as a PhD student at the department – if you feel so inclined!
