Are you interested in pitching your policy ideas to a panel of leading figures in politics, academia and industry? Do you want to get your name out there and suggest a policy that could make a difference? Apply for Policy Idol 2018, an annual competition organised by the Policy Institute at King’s!
What is Policy Idol 2018 and how does it work?
Have you ever wanted to change a national policy or suggest one that would solve widespread issues? If so, Policy Idol 2018 is your chance – participants, either individually or as part of a team, will have three minutes to present their ideas to a panel of judges. Your policy idea will then be assessed based on delivery, evidence and analysis.
Pitches can cover policy ideas on solving anything from the increasing problem of smartphone addiction to engaging young people to revitalise democracy. Take a look at the policy pitched by last year’s winner, Louis Phelps, who advocated the reduction of the consumption of meat to foster innovation.
Following a review of applications, individuals with the best policy ideas will be invited to compete in a series of heats. The winners of these heats will be sent to the grand final, which will take place in front of a live audience.
What’s in it for me?
Apart from having a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to pitch your idea to a panel of judges, you stand the chance to win: four cash prizes, with the overall winner getting £1000. Additionally, all finalists will receive bespoke training in policy analysis and communications.
I’m in! How do I apply?
Policy Idol 2018 is open to all current students and staff at King’s. To register, click here and fill out the Eventbrite form by Friday 1st December 2017 at 17.00. Remember, you can enter by yourself or as part of a team!
