Alors on dance!
You’ve heard it before, and you’ll hear it again – knowing another language is a skill that will make you stand out. In the UK, employers struggle to fill some positions which require foreign language knowledge. In fact, some studies have shown that, in the UK, ¾ of the population would not be able to hold a conversation in another language. So if you want to be noticed in that pile of CVs, think about learning another language while you’re here at King’s. The Modern Language Centre at King’s has 23 languages available to study at 3 central London locations, all at a reduced price for King’s students. It even offers a free non-assessed or assessed course for Postgraduate students, and a free assessed course for Undergraduate students. As a student of the Modern Language Centre, your course includes free access to King’s College London’s Language Resources Centre (LRC) at the Strand Campus, where you’ll be able to access 1-to-1 speaking practice sessions, cultural workshops, foreign language textbooks, grammar books, dictionaries, newspapers and magazines, films and language learning audio CDs.
Now if you’re one of those lucky people whose parents forced you to speak another language at home, or whether you’re a skilled linguist who happens to pick up languages easily (I’m jealous), the MLC would love your help too! As you probably already know, the easiest way to pick up a language is to speak it. With that in mind, the MLC have set up a system where they get native speakers to help their students by having 1-to-1 sessions, allowing them to practice their oral skills outside of class in a friendly atmosphere. The student will come along with a topic they would like to discuss, so all you will have to do is show off your multilingual skills and help the students along.
