Engaging Experience
A London-based start-up offering aspiring and established entrepreneurs a platform to access the necessary tools to grow their idea. To celebrate their launch, they are running a competition that awards £50k to the most innovative idea or start-up from any field. The best 10 applicants will have the opportunity to pitch at a large start-up conference ‘Elevating Ideas London 2018’ in October with 600+ entrepreneurs and investors attending, and over 50+ start-ups exhibiting.
How to enter:
- Your completed project outline. More information on how to create a project can be found here
- A 60-second video pitch for the judges about your idea
- Once submitted, answer the Competition Questionnaires explaining your idea in more detail
- Your engagement with World Labs and Team Ups reflecting your commitment to your idea
The video should include:
- Why your product or service is unique;
- Why you think it is important;
- Why they should support it
When you’re ready to submit your completed project, answer the competition questionnaire explaining your idea in more detail. There is also a WorldLabs platform for networking and sharing your ideas, you can keep track of your progress, and building a network of supporters if you’re would like to join, engage in the link provided in the application and connect with people in the hub.

Financial Times Talent Hackathon 2018
For the first time, the Financial Times will invite 50 bright minds to its London headquarters for a three-day hackathon, from the 27th to the 29th of October 2018. Participants will compete in teams to solve real business and technology cases, related to the digital and media world. They will work with the FT’s top experts, who will mentor them throughout the hackathon.
The best part? Each team will have the opportunity to pitch their ideas to FT key stakeholders, journalists and teams. The best pitches will have the chance to be scouted for future business opportunities and win cool prizes. All participants will have the opportunity to network with fellow hackathoners and FT employees and enjoy some great FT hospitality in London.
How to enter:
- Your CV plus a cover letter explaining why you want to take part in FT Talent Hackathon. The cover letter must be between 300 and 500 words.
What they are looking for:
- Talented individuals to join the unique Hackathon experience
- People who are proactive, curious and able to think on their feet
- Diverse background experiences – whether it’s in economics, engineering, humanities, finance, social sciences, or something completely different – are encouraged to apply, but you should have a keen interest in the digital, technology and/or media space.

Calling all students who love to travel! Are you a graduate or postgraduate student? Then you can compete for TheBackPackerCo Scholarship to the value of $500. The winner will give you as a student who is passionate about travelling a chance to partake in extending you’re travelling experience and getting help with traveling the world, broadening your horizon, discovering some hidden gems of your own in the process. You are free to use the scholarship amount towards any expense related to your educational pursuit!
How to enter: To qualify, you must be over the age of 18 years and currently be enrolled in any school or university across the world, for any course/program. Create a video of your favourite destination, and make sure you clearly mention the destination’s name and its location in the video. Upload your video’s URL to social@thebackpackerco.com on or before 30th October 2018. In the subject line, include “TheBackpacker Co Scholarship Application 2017-18”. Judging Criteria:
All applications will be reviewed by a panel constituted by the directors of TheBackPackerCo.
- Applications will be judged on Originality& Creativity.
- Video should be presented in a creative and interesting manner.
- Showcasing the destination from a unique angle and presenting some of its hidden gems will be given preference.

Schwarzman Scholars
The Schwarzman Scholars experience represents a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to spend a year
immersed in an international community of thinkers and innovators. Set in a new, state-of-the-art college at Beijing’s prestigious Tsinghua University, the program has been designed by leading academics to accelerate the future path of the world’s best and brightest. Students will refine and expand their leadership abilities while completing a fully funded, one-year Master’s Degree in Global
Affairs with concentration in one of three disciplines: Public Policy, Economics and Business or International Studies.
How to enter: The admissions process of Schwarzman Scholars focuses on characteristics that are not quantifiable. Candidates are evaluated based on their academic aptitude and future potential. All candidates will have an undergraduate degree prior to enrolment and must be proficient in English.
- Apply online including all your documents, transcripts and academic records. Include at least one recommendation letter.
- Submit a video of up to one minute in length introducing yourself
- Submit your CV/current resume no longer than 2 pages
- Submit two essays:
- Statement of Purpose and Leadership (750 words)
- Current Affairs Essay (Up to 500 words)
