London is calling!
For all those awaiting the start of a new course in a (perhaps) brand new city – it’s time to get excited: Move-in weekend is finally here! To celebrate the coming of new KCL students to London, we here at King’s C&E took a walk down memory lane. We remember some of the great things we’ve discovered in London over the years, and we made you a list of 5 great things to do in and around London. (Hint: It’s not all flat parties at Great Dover Street or pub crawls in South London…)
Watch your favourite films at a rooftop cinema
Hurry up, you might still make it! Unfortunately the season for rooftop cinema visits is drawing to an end. Don’t let the London weather stop you from enjoying the outdoor cinema experience on different rooftop venues around London. I’m sad to say that I wasted my first two years in London by not making my first trip to one of the many rooftop cinemas here straight away.
Grab a burger at a food market
There are plenty of them in and around London: Borough Market, Billingsgate Market, Greenwich Market, and the list goes on… It’s simple, the food is delicious, cheap, and you’ll have it ready to eat in your hands in short minutes.
Ride the Emirates Air Line cable car
If you’re looking for that nice London view, the Emirates Air Line is one of the cheaper choices. Just tap in with your student Oyster card and you’ll be on your way! If you head over to North Greenwich you can climb the O2 when you’re at it.
Have a fun ball pit experience in Shoreditch
And it’s not just ball pits. Shoreditch is a good place to discover new and fun bars: Ping Pong, Crazy Golf – you name it!
Discover theatre and music in London with your student wallet
You might have to do a lot of waiting to secure your tickets, but a lot of venues in London give you standing tickets for just £5. Go to the Shakespeare`s Globe Theatre, the Royal Opera House, or try to get cheap tickets to one of the many musicals showing in London (on the day, if you’re willing to get up early in the morning to get the cheapest tickets!)
And these are just a few of our favourite things to do in London… Happy move-in weekend all new KCL students! We hope you’re as exited about moving to London as we were.
