Mahak Salik
Hi all. I am Mahak, studying Public Health as my postgraduate degree at King’s. If you’re planning or have already opted for this course, you might benefit from my experience.
The department is quite lively and diverse. Most of us are from diverse backgrounds and belong to different age groups with different work experiences. We recently had a fun online Christmas celebration with all our professors and classmates. It was a refresher from the intense work we all had been putting in the coursework. We have two MPH representatives, which help to channelize all our doubts to the professors. Teaching staff as well as the professors are all readily available to answer any questions outside of the online seminar timings on emails or even allow one on one video sessions to clear any doubts that we may have. They constantly ask us for our feedback to help future students adjust to the course in a better way. My classes during term 1 were scheduled on Mondays and Thursdays. The dissertation module was scheduled later in the month of November on Wednesdays and any extra revision classes were scheduled on Fridays. We are given a choice between three one hourly webinars for each module which we can choose to attend according to our own convenience in which the batch gets divided into three parts and so each person gets enough attention during the webinar. The webinars are made interesting and engaging by asking us to form groups and make presentations on relevant topics a week before the module class. All the lecture slides are made available in a week advance and can be accessed at any given time. Each week we get practice quizzes and activities to complete which ensures we understand what we are studying and apply it in the practical world.
Even I was skeptical since I don’t hold a statistical or economic background for the modules that I had chosen for my modules but the professors are aware that we all come from different backgrounds and teach everything from scratch. So, if you’re having a hard time deciding if you should go for it or not, I say just do it. It will be worth it.
