To have the best possible experience in King’s Residences, it’s best to get yourself prepared as much as you can… starting with arrivals day!

Arrivals day at King’s will be one of your highlights of first year. It’s the day that you become part of an amazing community and are presented with great opportunities to make friends and learn new life skills. Not only this, you are about to become independent and really learn things about yourself that you never knew before.

But what is arrivals day really like?

Busy. In the best possible way. Check out the King’s Arrivals video for more of an idea!

People from all over the UK and the world are moving into their new home, so as you can imagine, there is a LOT going on. Everyone is moving in their belongings and wants to get unpacked and settled into life at King’s as soon as they can. You will meet people as soon as you arrive and yes, you have a lot to do but don’t shy away from conversations. Let people know which flat you’re in or what course you’re studying – you could be neighbours or even studying the same subject.

On the big day itself, there are a few things you need to do to make sure move-in day runs smoothly:

Step 1. Stick to your arrival slot.

You’ve completed your online induction, you’re really excited, and you want to get there as early as possible. But as we’ve mentioned, it can get pretty busy. By sticking to your timeslot, you will reduce queues and the amount of time it takes to collect your keys and get all moved in.

Step 2. Have a swift and easy drop-off.

You’ll find Welcome Ambassadors and designated drop-off points at your residence once you arrive. They will help you get everything out of the car within 5 minutes and after this, you’ll have to find a nearby car parking spot to leave the car until your unpacking is all done. You can find maps of all residences (with parking information) online

Step 3. Check into your new home.

It’s about to get real-time to pick up your keys! Once you’ve left your belongings in the secure luggage holding area or asked your friends/family to keep an eye on them, you’ll need some form of photo ID to check-in and collect your keys. You won’t find out your room number until you arrive, but don’t let this worry or stress you out too much. No one finds out their room number until they arrive, and as worrying as this can be, it actually kind of makes the whole experience that more exciting.

Step 4. Unpack

Congratulations, you’ve reached the best and most exciting part of the day. Now is the time to transform the empty shell of a bedroom into your cosy new home for the next year. Yes, it may take a few trips up and down the stairs but it’ll be worth it once you’re all relaxed in your new space.

Step 5. Say your goodbyes.

It can be pretty emotional when your friends and family leave, but remind yourself of all the amazing things you have to look forward to and that you can still speak to them every day over the phone. Take some time to adjust and feel comfortable in your new space and then go off to find other students who are feeling exactly the same as you.

Once this is all sorted, your King’s journey officially begins. You can get off to the best possible start at your Residence Welcome Party on your first night – if you haven’t had the chance to meet anyone yet, this is the perfect chance to do exactly that. You also have the opportunity to get involved in Welcome Pizza Parties on Saturday and a BBQ on Sunday – if the weather is in our favour!

Welcome to your new home. It’s about to get really exciting!
