This module will enable students to consider some of the principles that inform the practice of public health. It will look at the complexity of health and context, and the assessment of health need. The development of public health, its relationship to health care and future trends and innovations, will be discussed. The domains of public health reflecting multiple stakeholders and disciplines and the implications for collaboration and discord will be examined. The political, legal and ethical landscape will be discussed and the emerging values informing practice. It will outline the development of public health globally and nationally, and examine its relationship with health care systems. It will critically consider the domains of public health and the underlying principles informing its practice. The status of public health as an individual or governmental responsibility will be discussed, together with the implications for future developments and trends.
