There are persisting inequalities in health outcomes between countries in the Global North and the Global South. Global Health is an interdisciplinary field that analyses the causes and consequences of these disparities, as well as ways of addressing them. Drawing from the social sciences, in addition to the fields of epidemiology and public health, the course covers diverse topics including international development, global governance, health systems strengthening, conflict, migration and global health emergencies. This module is taught through a combination of online lectures, interactive sessions such as forum discussions, mapping and data analysis exercises, and self-guided reading. It will introduce key global health issues. Students will consider the global burden of ill health and engage with topics within the fields of development, conflict, global governance, and migration. It will provide students with the skills and knowledge to understand and critically analyse these global dynamics and their relationship to health and health service delivery.

The module is led by Dr Moshi Optat Herman, Dr Andreas Papamichail and Katharine Collet.
