Yesterday (23 August 2009) was BlueJ&#8217;s 10th birthday.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-182\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kcl.ac.uk\/proged\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/192\/files\/2009\/08\/BlueJ-cake-small2.jpg\" alt=\"BlueJ-cake-small\" width=\"560\" height=\"440\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.kcl.ac.uk\/proged\/files\/2009\/08\/BlueJ-cake-small2.jpg 560w, https:\/\/blogs.kcl.ac.uk\/proged\/files\/2009\/08\/BlueJ-cake-small2-300x236.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.kcl.ac.uk\/proged\/files\/2009\/08\/BlueJ-cake-small2-382x300.jpg 382w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 560px) 100vw, 560px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As BlueJ&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bluej.org\/help\/changes.html\">version history<\/a> shows, BlueJ 1.0 was released on 23 August 1999. It was born in Australia &#8211; in Melbourne, to be more exact. The project went through various changes, ending up spread across the world, with one half of the team still in Melbourne, and the other in Canterbury in the UK.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s not to be taken for granted that a university project survives that long, so I am really grateful to all members of the team \u2013 past and current \u2013 and to the extremely supportive user community for sticking with it for so long.<\/p>\n<p>Happy Birthday BlueJ!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m late, I admit it.
