Why Did I Choose a Placement?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Choosing a placement was a decision\u00a0based on\u00a02 main factors.\u00a0Firstly, finances played a significant role\u00a0as\u00a0I needed to manage living expenses\u00a0as well as support my family in finances, and a placement offered a\u00a0great\u00a0solution.\u00a0Secondly, after what I consider my toughest academic year\u00a0prior,\u00a0a placement offered a\u00a0very\u00a0refreshing break from studying.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n What’s the Environment and Workspace Like?\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The environment at my placement is both welcoming and flexible.\u00a0My office\u00a0offers\u00a0free coffee, which is always a nice perk,\u00a0and\u00a0allows\u00a0us to work from home\u00a0if\u00a0we meet our deadlines. The office itself is in a great location, making travel convenient. The atmosphere is friendly and colleagues are always happy to answer questions.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n How Did I Pick My Placement?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n When selecting my placement, I aimed for a role that combined technology with business, finance, and auditing. I wanted to expand beyond a purely tech-focused position like software engineering and found BDO to be a perfect fit. I also considered the travel involved in reaching the placement.\u00a0Not all pay is good pay, and it’s essential to consider the overall impact on your life. For those searching for placements, it’s vital to ensure you’re ready for commuting if you apply to distant locations. Be prepared to go in five days a week if remote work isn’t an option at the business you’re joining, as these factors directly impact your day-to-day life.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Why Should You Go on a Placement?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n A placement offers a brilliant chance to gain a whole year of experience ahead of your university peers. It allows you to immerse yourself in a career and see if it’s something you can envision doing in the future. Additionally, placements are a great way to make valuable contacts\u00a0in your industry,\u00a0and these connections can be instrumental in your career development.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n How Would I\u00a0Describe My Experience So Far<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n I think the first thing to mention would be how tiring working\u00a0full-time\u00a0can be, especially\u00a0if it is your first time working\u00a0professionally.\u00a0Although contracted hours\u00a0may be different,\u00a0it is normal\u00a0to work\u00a0later\u00a0some days or begin earlier on others to complete the work. However, the experience has been\u00a0very\u00a0rewarding as it has helped me to learn lots of different\u00a0types of work and this has made me so much more adaptable.\u00a0This placement has also given me the chance to really change my mindset to want more work\u00a0as the recognition I have received from colleagues has been immense.
