As a King’s Computer Science student, you can specialise your degree in fields such as Artificial Intelligence or Software Engineering, have a year abroad, or take out a year in industry. There is also the option to take an integrated master’s or join your Computer Science degree with Management.

Other Opportunities to Learn Something New

Just because you are a Computer Science student, it doesn’t mean that everything you learn must be related to computer science. You also have the option to take part in optional modules such as in Remote working, and the AKC (Associate of King’s College) award looks at a new unique topic each semester. There are also Experience Awards in which you can explore Entrepreneurship or even London itself.

Campus Location

As a Computer Science student, you will mostly be based in the Strand Campus, in particular Bush House. There’s so much to explore nearby, from the British Museum (which is free!) to the shops and restaurants of Covent Garden. In terms of getting to the campus, transport is no issue, as there are a multitude of buses stop outside and three tube stations nearby, allowing you to get to a fun afternoon with your friends in another part of London, like Kensington in the West or Stratford in the East, in 20 minutes if you want to. And don’t forget Somerset House next door with Galleries and for winter, an Ice Rink.

Societies

As a King’s student you have access to over 300 student societies, including religious, cultural, and interest-based. As a Computer Science student, you have a range of societies aimed specifically at you and covering fields you may want a career in such as Cyber Security, Machine Learning, AI, Cryptocurrency, and Robotics. As well as this there is a Tech Society and Women in STEM society. Many of these societies hold talks with employers and workshops to learn something new outside of your course.

Careers Service and Internship Opportunities

During your degree and for a few years after you will be supported by the amazing Careers and Employability team. They offer many services such as CV checking and interview workshops. Every year they host a Careers Festival aimed at Informatics students, which connects you to employers from tech and non-tech companies. The Careers portal not only allows you find upcoming events but also find internships and jobs with some even ringfenced for King’s students only. If you are more interested in research than industry or want to get a taste of it, you can also spend the summer working with a professor and complete a KURF research project.

A day in the life of a Computer Science student

Curious about a Year’s Professional Placement?

Being a Computer Science student at King’s is a great opportunity to not just study an interesting course that has applications in every industry, but also take part in the social […]

[3,31,90
6
post-1942","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-informatics","category-life-at-kings","category-undergraduate","tag-informatics
["GET
