How my professional experiences and postgraduate studies are shaping my career ambitions

By Carafino, MSc Robotics

From my past experience in industry, I knew I wanted to get into a business that will improve people’s quality of life. I have seen many aspects as to how my degree can help me do that, from solving issues in areas ranging from health to space exploration.

Currently I am thinking about further exploration within the biomedical industry. This is one of the reasons as to why I choose King’s out my offersas there is a high level of research and consequently, an increased probability to pursue a masters project in Biomedical Engineering. Luckily, I was able to gain a place in one of these projects so I’m pretty excited to see what this experience will bring, and if it will confirm whether or not this is a potential career path for me!

From introspection of what has made me happy in previous endeavours, I know that working with new and innovative technology in multidisciplinary fields of science would be a large part of any future job of mine. I genuinely have interest in many disciplines (which is both a blessing and a curse) which will enable further progress in improving quality of life. It is this broad interest which has made me a tiny bit agnostic as to what industry I can see myself in!

But as to what my specific career ambitions are – I’m currently enjoying the variation that my course is giving me, as I am able to get a taste of the many facets in Robotics and its overlapping technologiesThe open-ended conversions I’m having with my peers, professors and companies alike, are all pulling me in all kinds of directions…so when I figure it out, I’ll be sure to let you know.
