What
Two posters that were produced by the Parliamentary War Savings Committee on ‘War Loans’. Citizens were encouraged to invest in ‘War Loans’ which were used to help finance the war.
Why
The reason why I have selected these posters is that they clearly demonstrate the need for further fundraising which was aimed at those who could not enlist into the war. These images show us the lengths to which ordinary people were expected to take in order to support the war. What is striking to me is the extraordinary sacrifices that were made for the war effort. Not only did many of them lose family members but financially they risked never receiving their money back from the government.
