New podcast alert! A Date with Diversity podcast launches Wednesday 2nd March

Do you feel that there isn’t enough information and conversations around diversity in the workplace? Are you interested in hearing the stories and career experiences of people from diverse backgrounds? Look no further as my new podcast “A Date with Diversity” launches on Wednesday 2nd March at 6pm!

So who am I and why did I want to start this podcast? My name is Steph and I am a Digital Information Officer here at Kings College. I manage the blog and I am involved in creating useful information on KEATS. Something that I noticed when I started my role back in November was the lack of open and honest conversations about equality, diversity and inclusion. I am a young black woman (23 to be exact😃) and I believe it is important to discuss what people from diverse backgrounds are often faced with in their careers as this is the only way to bring about change, by understanding and empathising with other people’s experiences. So, I decided to start a podcast to create a safe space for not only guest speakers but also myself to talk about diversity in the workplace.

It was important to address the issues that students have with accessibility which is why I thought it would be a good idea to post on popular streaming platforms like Spotify, Apple music, Apple podcasts etc. That way, you won’t need to log in to KEATS every time and can listen when it is convenient to you. I also think that with my job, the “human” side is often lost as you don’t get to see what I look like, so I am making a separate YouTube channel to post the visual side of the podcast. Below are some examples of the topics that will be discussed:

  • microaggressions and how to deal with them
  • imposter syndrome
  • disability/race/sexuality (and the intersectionality of them) in different industries (I aim to get guest speakers for this to speak about their experiences e.g. a black gay man working in finance or a hijabi woman working in engineering)
  • being your authentic self: discussions on hair, names, accents, ways of dressing
  • belonging vs inclusion, how they differ and how to be an advocate for change
  • family pressure to do well: how to live for you
I think it’s essential to have open and honest conversations about the experiences of individuals that are a POC, LGBTQ+, disabled, woman and from certain religious faith groups to hopefully open the eyes of many and change their perspective.
It will be launching on Wednesday 2nd March and will be available on all streaming platforms and YouTube. Simply type in “A date with diversity” to follow and subscribe.
*Please note that following the podcast on streaming services won’t be available until day of launch but YouTube channel has been created so you are able to subscribe.*
