Wellcome Centre for Global Health Research: Annual Meeting

The Wellcome Trust-Imperial College Centre for Global Health Research’s Annual Scientific Meeting is taking place on Wednesday, 22 June 2016 at 09:00 Thursday, 23 June 2016 at 17:30.

The Centre for Global Health Research aims to make advances in preventing and treating major health problems of low and middle income countries, while fostering the careers of a new generation of scientists from those countries.

The two-day meeting is divided into separate events.

Day 1: Global Health Symposium.
Venue: Royal Geographical Society

Talks and posters have been selected from across Imperial Faculties and cover topics including:

  • Technologies for Global Health
  • Diagnosis, surveillance and delivery of care
  • Nutrition, the environment and global health

A keynote lecture will be delivered by Professor Vikram Patel (LSHTM). Attendees include representatives from the Wellcome Trust, and journal editors from PLOS One and The Lancet.

Day 2: Careers in global health research, and beyond

Venue: Royal Geographical Society

This day will focus on the professional development of early career researchers, both within academia and in other sectors. We will hear from a variety of speakers, including Dr Richard Smith, former Editor of the British Medical Journal, as well as representatives from GlaxoSmithKline, the World Health Organisation, Lancet Global Health, Boston Consulting Group and Cancer Research UK.
