This role involves researching, analysing, commenting and reporting on aviation policy relevant to our Local Authority membership. As the SASIG Policy Officer you will:
-Identify relevant information from media, industry and other sources to keep the membership up to date;
-Produce briefings and written reports on topics of most importance to the group;
-Monitor and report on forthcoming events in the UK Parliament, European Union and on the international scene;
-Have an aptitude for coordinating complex and conflicting views and opinions, assisting with the development of policy for the group;
-Assist in the production the ‘SASIG Bulletin’;
-Upload documents to the SASIG website;
-Recruit additional Local Authorities to the group;
-Assist with organising meetings and events;
-Uphold the positive reputation of the group;
-Use the financial management system, ensuring timely and accurate provision of details; and
-Comply with Surrey County Council’s financial procedures, and equality & diversity policy.
Aviation experience is not essential, however a knowledge of and interest in transport, the environment, the economy and politics is required. The post holder must be able to demonstrate strong prioritisation and task management skills, as well as a high level of computer literacy. This position is key to the success and reputation of SASIG so a passion for continuous improvement is key, in addition to the desire to take a pivotal role in maintaining the group’s positive image.
