{"id":650,"date":"2019-05-15T15:20:31","date_gmt":"2019-05-15T15:20:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kcl.ac.uk\/ioppn-students\/?p=650"},"modified":"2020-01-23T17:45:26","modified_gmt":"2020-01-23T17:45:26","slug":"london-living-studying-in-denmark-hill","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kcl.ac.uk\/ioppn-students\/2019\/05\/15\/london-living-studying-in-denmark-hill\/","title":{"rendered":"London Living \u2013 Studying in Denmark Hill"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I have lived in London my entire 23 years of life and still haven\u2019t explored every corner of the beautiful capital; I\u2019m always discovering new things \u2013 every day is fresh and exciting, and there is <strong>always <\/strong>something interesting to do in the city!<\/p>\n<p>London is undoubtedly an <strong>incredible place to live<\/strong>; here are just a few of the reasons why.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>Stunning sightseeing, awesome attractions, breath-taking views and gorgeous green spaces<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Many of the landmarks in London are free to visit! There a number of <strong>museums <\/strong>you can visit for free, such as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhm.ac.uk\/\">Natural History Museum<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalgallery.org.uk\/\">National Gallery<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencemuseum.org.uk\/\">Science Museum<\/a> (my favourite!). We also have the recently opened <a href=\"https:\/\/london.sciencegallery.com\/\">Science Gallery<\/a> at King&#8217;s which connects art, science and health to drive innovation in the heart of the city.<\/p>\n<p>From royal gardens to blossoming parks, London boasts a number of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.royalparks.org.uk\/\"><strong>vibrant open green spaces <\/strong><\/a>for picnics, strolls or admiring nature. Some popular places to chill and explore are Hyde Park, Kensington Gardens or Richmond Park to name a few.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Weekend activities <\/strong>range from visiting Big Ben to checking out the view of London\u2019s skyline from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.the-shard.com\/viewing-gallery\/\">The Shard<\/a> \u2013 the tallest building in Western Europe! The city can cater to your interests with thousands of bookable, accessible workshops and activities, whether you\u2019re into sculpting, spray-painting, skateboarding or baking.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.kcl.ac.uk\/ioppn-students\/files\/2019\/05\/IMG_4563.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-651 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kcl.ac.uk\/ioppn-students\/files\/2019\/05\/IMG_4563-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.kcl.ac.uk\/ioppn-students\/files\/2019\/05\/IMG_4563-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.kcl.ac.uk\/ioppn-students\/files\/2019\/05\/IMG_4563-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.kcl.ac.uk\/ioppn-students\/files\/2019\/05\/IMG_4563-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Iconic shopping and phenomenal food and drink <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you like to shop to your heart\u2019s content then look no further than London\u2019s famous Oxford Street, Westfield shopping centres or <strong>anywhere <\/strong>in London for that matter. There is something for everybody when it comes to the world of fashion in London, the home of designer, vintage, quirky and bold.<\/p>\n<p>My favourite thing about London is the multitude of delicious and diverse food; I love trying new dishes (and eating!), whether it\u2019s gourmet fine dining, street food or a standard cheeky Nando\u2019s, and London has it all: exquisite restaurants, caf\u00e9s and pubs catering to all diets by providing halal, vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free foods.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.kcl.ac.uk\/ioppn-students\/files\/2019\/05\/IMG_7424.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-654 size-medium aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kcl.ac.uk\/ioppn-students\/files\/2019\/05\/IMG_7424-e1557933226899-300x152.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"152\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.kcl.ac.uk\/ioppn-students\/files\/2019\/05\/IMG_7424-e1557933226899-300x152.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.kcl.ac.uk\/ioppn-students\/files\/2019\/05\/IMG_7424-e1557933226899-768x390.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.kcl.ac.uk\/ioppn-students\/files\/2019\/05\/IMG_7424-e1557933226899-1024x520.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.kcl.ac.uk\/ioppn-students\/files\/2019\/05\/IMG_7684.jpg\"><br \/>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Multi-cultural and resourceful<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Studying in Denmark Hill, in the heart of Greater London, you are surrounded by individuals from such varied cultures and backgrounds and it is truly a privilege. It is refreshing and humbling to meet people from all over the world with different perspectives and stories! London is a<strong> rich, multi-cultural hub<\/strong> of inspiring individuals with unique journeys that make living here so special.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout my MSc so far, I have felt so <strong>secure<\/strong> studying in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=KqC6RbPCPhg\">Denmark Hill<\/a> \u2013 there are multiple libraries, green spaces and caf\u00e9s within walking distance of the main Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience building, making it easy to pop out for anything I might need.
