But don\u2019t fret \u2013 you\u2019ll find what\u2019s right for you.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.kcl.ac.uk\/ioppn-students\/files\/2019\/04\/future-image.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-629 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kcl.ac.uk\/ioppn-students\/files\/2019\/04\/future-image-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.kcl.ac.uk\/ioppn-students\/files\/2019\/04\/future-image-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.kcl.ac.uk\/ioppn-students\/files\/2019\/04\/future-image.jpg 612w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>At the beginning of the academic year, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kcl.ac.uk\/careers\">King\u2019s Careers and Employability<\/a> provided all students with a programme detailing a range of <strong>events<\/strong> organised specifically for the IoPPN students at Denmark Hill, various <strong>careers fairs<\/strong>, and <strong>workshops<\/strong> providing guidance on CVs, interviews, networking and social media, transitioning to the workplace and discovering your future.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.kcl.ac.uk\/ioppn-students\/files\/2019\/04\/future-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-630 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kcl.ac.uk\/ioppn-students\/files\/2019\/04\/future-2-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.kcl.ac.uk\/ioppn-students\/files\/2019\/04\/future-2-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.kcl.ac.uk\/ioppn-students\/files\/2019\/04\/future-2.jpg 612w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Never really knowing which career I&#8217;d like to pursue, this programme reassured me greatly. Attending different events gave me a taste of the many areas I could explore career-wise, such as: Clinical Practice, Counselling, Therapy and Support, Non-clinical Careers and Mental Health Research.<\/p>\n<p>King\u2019s Careers and Employability also split your career mindset into 3 helpful stages, and the relevant steps you can take:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Discover<\/strong> \u2013 \u2018I&#8217;m just starting to explore my career options.\u2019<\/li>\n<li><strong>Focus<\/strong> \u2013 \u2018I have a few ideas about my career options.\u2019<\/li>\n<li><strong>Action<\/strong> \u2013 \u2018I have a clear idea of careers that interest me.\u2019<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.kcl.ac.uk\/ioppn-students\/files\/2019\/04\/future-3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-631 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kcl.ac.uk\/ioppn-students\/files\/2019\/04\/future-3-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.kcl.ac.uk\/ioppn-students\/files\/2019\/04\/future-3-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/blogs.kcl.ac.uk\/ioppn-students\/files\/2019\/04\/future-3.jpg 416w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cTry to figure out what you\u2019re most <strong>passionate<\/strong> about in life and what you\u2019re good at, and the mixture between those two, and then you should <strong>give it your all<\/strong>, all the time. You have to work really hard if you want to get anywhere with whatever you do; if you work hard enough, you\u2019re going to <strong>succeed.<\/strong>\u201d \u2013 Avicii<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>A good place to start on your journey is <strong>determining which area you\u2019re interested in or what you\u2019re passionate about.<\/strong> For me? Mental Health. I went ahead and booked myself onto an event: Discovering Careers in Mental Health Research where I had the opportunity to hear from industry professionals from a variety of backgrounds pertaining mental health, sharing their personal career journeys to where they are now! Everybody had taken such <strong>individual routes<\/strong>, some quite straight-forward and others more obscure. It was so comforting and inspiring to see that, even those quite far in their careers weren\u2019t too sure where they were headed when they were in my position!<\/p>\n<p>I have considered pursuing a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.findaphd.com\/\">PhD<\/a> within Mental Health research, other research routes outside of academia (such as user-centred research for mental health-related applications), or perhaps medical writing after completing my Neuroscience MSc.<\/p>\n<p>No matter what the next chapter holds, I know that I\u2019ll be well-equipped with my Neuroscience MSc from Kings in hand!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\"><p>It can be slightly daunting to consider what you\u2019re going to do after you graduate, especially when there are so many opportunities out there!
