A European survey of more than 45,000 people in 16 countries revealed that almost 1 in 5 of the European population suffers chronic pain i.e. moderate or severe pain that persists for more than 6 months.*

In a BBC 2 series called The Human Body: Secrets of your Life Revealed , neuroscientist and Sherrington Professor of Physiology at King’s College London, Professor Stephen McMahon, demonstrates an experiment that’s devised to show us how effective our brains can be at controlling or even reducing the amount of pain that we feel.
